ABC Nepal’s Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response Efforts
Amidst the serene landscapes of Koshi Province, a pressing challenge persists—gender-based violence. ABC Nepal, with international and local backing, is confronting this challenge head-on through its proactive Phase II program. By strategically combining advocacy, direct support, and community engagement, this initiative seeks to dismantle the barriers of gender inequality and violence.
Phase II: Program Overview and Objectives
The Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response Phase II program operates across three districts—Morang, Udaypur, and Okhaldhunga—with the overarching goal of eradicating gender discrimination and supporting survivors. The program is a joint initiative, showcasing a model of collaboration that brings together various governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.
Progress and Achievements: Detailed Insights
- Shelter and GBV Services:
The program has provided comprehensive shelter services to 148 individuals across the three districts, with a breakdown as follows:- Morang: 40 individuals
- Udayapur: 59 individuals
- Okhaldhunga: 49 individuals
Additionally, 126 individuals received GBV services without shelter, highlighting the outreach and impact beyond the safe houses.
- Coordination and Training:
- Livelihood training was imparted to 24 persons, enhancing their skills for economic independence.
- The program facilitated seven coordination meetings with stakeholders, ensuring cohesive efforts and resource sharing among key players.
- Advocacy and Awareness:
The program successfully conducted an activism event against GBV, which saw participation across all districts, fostering greater community involvement and awareness.
